The Herfsakker old age home has a frail care unit, which can accommodate 32 residents. The unit provides sub-acute nursing care services to frail older and disabled persons. A chief professional nurse, four professional nurses and a team of auxiliary nurses assisted by health care workers, heads the frail care unit. All our professional nurses have many years of experience in geriatric nursing care. The main objective of the frail care unit is to improve the quality of life and maintain the dignity of the very frail older or disabled person.
Patients are accommodated in single, two- bed and four-bed rooms. Ablution facilities are shared. Patients are assisted with all activities of daily living such as eating, bathing, getting dressed, etc. All patients are treated according to acceptable nursing plans, guidelines, policies, standards and practice. All medication is administered and monitored by a qualified professional nurse.
Herfsakker has a resident doctor that visits the home once per week for routine medical check ups and minor ailments. Should a patient need further medical treatment, a referral will be made to a relevant practitioner. The home has a service level agreement with Netcare 911 for the emergency transport of our patients to hospital. |
